Life is a Chess-board

?The chess-board is the world: the pieces are the phenomena of the universe; the rules of the game are what we call the laws of nature. The player on the other side is hidden from us. We know that his play is always fair, just and patient. But also we know, to our cost, that he never overlooks a mistake, or makes the smallest allowance for ignorance.

Love the World

?The world is so amazing; the world is so big; it’s full of natural wonders and amazing peoples. There are so many different countries; there are so many different cultures; there are breathtaking mountains and rivers; there are awesome cities, full of skyscrapers. I am a citizen of the world. I want to see and experience as much as possible. I want to enjoy the riches(财富wealth) of the world. Let’s travel the world together. Let’s take care of the world together. Let’s work hand in hand to make our world a better and more beautiful place. Let’s show our love for the world.

So here I am, applying to be one of your interns because the more I think about this idea, the more tremendous I think it is. I love the idea of having a place I can go every day. I want the connection, the excitement. I wanna be challenged,

and I guess I might even wanna be needed. The tech stuff might take a bit to figure out. I had to call my 9-year-old grandson just to find out what a USB connector was. But I'll get there. Eager to learn. Also, I want you to know I've been a company man all my life. I'm loyal, I'm trustworthy, and I'm good in a crisis.

And I love that you're right here in Brooklyn. I've lived here all my life, and lately I feel I may not be hip enough to live in Brooklyn, so this could help with that, too.

I read once, musicians don't retire. They stop when there's no more music in them.

Well, I still have music in me, absolutely positive about that.

English Will Be More Important After the Olympics

Dear friends, all over China, the Olympics are really, only the beginning for China’s increased need for English. After the world spotlight shines on China for the 2008 Olympic games, there will be more interest in China, more investment in China and more visitors to China than ever before. It is crucially important to keep the forward momentum created by the Olympic Games. Everyone must continue to improve in every way possible. The potential for success and the need for excellent English skills will absolutely skyrocket in the post-Olympic period. Don’t see the Olympics as an ending; they really are the beginning of a whole, new international era for the international citizens of China.

ENGLISH MANIA

Let's talk about manias. Let's start with Beatle mania. Hysterical teenagers, crying, screaming, pandemonium. Sports mania. Deafening crowds. All for one idea. Get the ball in the net. Okay, religious mania. There's rapture. There's weeping. There's visions. Manias can be good. Manias can be alarming. Or manias can be deadly. The world has a new mania. A mania for learning English.

Why English? In a single word: Opportunity. Opportunity for a better life, a job, to be able to pay for school, or put better food on the table.

So is English mania good or bad? Is English a tsunami, washing away other languages? Not likely. English is the world's second language. Your native language is your life. But with English you can become part of a wider conversation. A global conversation about global problems. Like climate change or poverty. Or hunger or disease. The world has other universal languages. Mathematics is the language of science. Music is the language of emotions. And now English is becoming the language of problem solving. Not because America is pushing it. But because the world is pulling it. So English mania is a turning point. Like the harnessing of electricity in our cities, or the fall of the Berlin Wall, English represents hope for a better future. A future where the world has a common language to solve its common problems.

第六篇:YOUTH

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life. Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust. Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being’s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing appetite for what’s next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart, there is a wireless station; so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, courage and power from man and from the infinite, so long as you are young. When your aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you’ve grown old, even at 20; but as long as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there’s hope you may die young at 80.
