Thank you for your understanding and cooperation! **Course AimsExamines the critical History of Modern China from 1842 to 1949

Including the rise of Ch’ing Emperor, the foreign relation, the enforcement of Canton System of trade, the outbreak of Opium War and Taiping Revolution, the Self-strengthening Movement, and the acceleration of Western imperialism, the failure of the “Hundred-Day” Reform and the Boxer Uprising, the rise of Republic, and the Sino-Japanese War and Civil War

Provides a various dimensions of Modern China’s history

New perspective is conducted in this courseMedium of Instruction (MOI)MOI during the lectures is English

Languages used in interaction between the instructors and students out of the lectures should not be restricted

Some assigned readings may be written in Chinese

Relevant Audio-visual video may be in Cantonese or Putonghua without English subtitle
