1.Research Significance

Practically, there are some advantages of analyzing the pragmatic function of conceptual metaphor under the framework of RT. Firstly, the audience can better understand the language features, thoughts and emotions of the speaker as to absorb what the speaker wants to convey. Secondly, the reader will get to know the cognitive mechanism in producing conceptual metaphors , which makes it easier to comprehend the conceptual metaphor thoroughly in TED talks. Thirdly, the previous researchers on TED talks mainly aims to analyze the discourse and verbal mechanism. Though there are researches on the conceptual metaphor used in TED talks, they are only limited in the metaphor itself. There are few researches studying the conceptual metaphor from the pragmatic perspective. However, only to know the pragmatic function of conceptual metaphor can we better understand the working mechanism of it.
