感谢信

Dear Mr. Shakespeare,

I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude. I am referring to that unfortunate accident the other day, when I was knocked off my bike by a taxi.

If it had not been for your timely assistance in giving me first aid, I fear that the consequences might been much more serious. Everyone agrees that it was your quick-witted response in that emergency that gave rise to this satisfactory outcome.

Although nowadays people in mounting numbers talk about the need to be unselfish, we see very few people practice what they preach. If there were more people like you, this world would be a much nicer place.

Yours sincerely,

Li Ming

健康

As is symbolically illustrated in the cartoon, wearing a white gown and a stethoscope, a doctor is holding a medical record and speaking to his patient in a ward of a hospital. Apparently, the intended meaning of the drawing is that people are doing less and less exercises now, which is not a piece of good news for their health.

There are numerous ways of keeping fit. First and foremost, it is most effective to do physical exercises. People respectively choose jogging, playing basketball, swimming, skating, climbing or riding as their regular exercises because exercises never fail to make us stronger and more energetic. Moreover, we should put great emphasis on forming good habits. A balanced diet and sufficient sleep are both indispensable to physical fitness. What’s more, mental health should also be taken seriously. Especially in adversity, we need to maintain an optimistic mentality to pull through life's pain and sorrow, twists and turns.

As far as I am concerned, I have a peculiar interest in yoga exercise. An hour's exercise everyday usually makes me feel healthier and more vigorous. Besides, I never touch any cigarette or wine, neither do I stay up late. Instead, I keep balanced diet and go to bed before 11 o'clock at night, because I believe burning the midnight oil is harmful to health. More importantly, an optimistic attitude toward life makes me confident and persistent. To sum up, all these practices guarantee a healthy body and a happy life.

读书

As is vividly shown in the picture above, a book is lying in the grass and beautiful flowers. Beside some sunflowers which are surrounded by lovely butterflies, there is a topic which says "Reading".

Nowadays few of us read extensively after we leave school. This tendency is rather disturbing, but one should know that reading extensively is no less necessary to one's mental life than fresh air to one's physical life. From reading extensively, we can derive companionship, experience and instruction. First and foremost, a good book is like our faithful friend. It can increase our contentment when we are cheerful and happy, and lessen our pain when we are sad or lonely. Furthermore, reading extensively can also offer us a wide range of experiences. In reading we may join tourists marveling at the incredible power of Niagara Falls, mingle with the happy throngs strolling in the Paris boulevards and experience the bitterness and joy of people on different lands and in different times. Few of us can travel far from home or live long over one hundred, but all of us can live many lives through the pages of books. Last but not least, reading extensively can improve our intellectual ability, broaden our minds and make us wise.

Though with the advent of TV, mobile phones and the Internet, books are no longer read as extensively as the once were, nothing can replace the role that reading plays in our lives.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I write t0 express my dissatisfaction with the service I received while staying at your hotel during my vacation between the 2nd and 11th of April this year.

Although your hotel is rated as a five-star one, I found that the rooms were not cleaned on a daily basis, and that my bed was cleaned up only every three days. In addition, the food in the restaurant was similarly disappointing. Not only was it extremely overpriced, but the quality was very poor. I was therefore forced to eat out in the local restaurants.

I trust you will take my complaints seriously, and make every effort to improve your service in the future. I would greatly appreciate a discount on my bill (receipt enclosed). I look forward to a favorable reply at your earliest convenience.

Yours sincerely,

Li Ming

传统文化

The ancient culture of China is one of the great treasures of human civilization. In the photo above, a foreign lady is pleasantly appreciating a traditional Chinese vase in a museum. Obviously,She has been attracted by its elegant charm.

In my opinion, the traditional Chinese culture is not only certain to survive, but, in fact, is destined to thrive and prosper. One factor that has already begun to contribute to the preservation of Chinese traditional culture is its commercialization. Another reason that the future of China's ancient culture can be considered “safe”is the active efforts to protect it on the part of the Chinese government. Finally, the culture of China is supported by widespread and growing international interest in China and its traditions.

For China, as for any other rapidly developing country, there is a a danger that age-old customs and traditions may become lost in the shadows of the modernization. If tai chi, kung fu or Peking Opera ever perished from the earth,it would be a tragedy of immeasurable proportions.Fortunately, as a result of successful commercialization efforts, unwavering government support and growing interest overseas, the future of China's traditional culture will be brighter and more secure than ever before.

Dear Professor Byron,

Last week you asked students to write and give you feedback on your lectures. Therefore, I have outlined my thoughts below.

In general, I find your lectures very informative and inspiring. Indeed,I particularly like the way you demonstrate complex issues with the use of simple drawings. This makes your lessons both interesting and memorable. However, I do feel that you could provide us with more handouts, for I often fail to take down all the important points as time is limited. I would als0 like to see more discussion work, as I find this method the most suitable way to clarify and deepen my understanding of the subject content.

I'd like to thank you for the interest you are taking in us students and look forward to your next lecture.

Yours sincerely,

Li Ming

The cartoon depicts that a strong person is trying to find gold out of a huge stone. Holding an ax with his firm hands, he is hewing out of the stone of despair a piece of precious gold. The caption indicates that, “Only through innovation can we make progress, while sticking to old ways means regression."

The purpose of the drawing is to show us that utmost importance should be attached to innovation and creativity. To begin with, the spirit of innovation could be said to be the watchword or motto of science.Think about the innumerable times a scientific experiment must be carried out, all the laboratory tests, all the live trials, before a new medicine or vaccine is discovered. In addition, many of today's business successes can be attributed to innovation. For instance, I personally worked in such 内容过长,仅展示头部和尾部部分文字预览,全文请查看图片预览。 products over disposable ones. The third “R"stands for "recycle". With recycling bins placed in various locations across many campuses, it is easier than ever before for students to recycle.

High waste levels contribute to energy depletion and environmental degradation. We should all do our part to respond to the environmental challenges that the earth face. For college students, following the three R's is a simple and effective way to cut down on waste and help to make the world a greener place.
