Over time I have been changed quite a lot.

I was built as an analytical machine by Charles Babbage.

I was programmed by an operator who used cards with holes.

At that time it was considered a technological revolution and the start of my “artificial intelligence”.

In 1936 my real father, Alan Turing, wrote a book about how I could be made to work as a “universal machine” to solve any difficult mathematical problem.

As time went by, I was made smaller.

First as a PC (personal computer) and then as a laptop, I have been used in offices and homes since the 1970s.

First it was stored in tubes, then on transistors and later on very small chips.

Since 1970s many new applications have been found for me.

I have also been put into robots and used to make mobile phones as well as help with medical operations.

I have even been put into space rockets and sent to explore the Moon and Mars.

We’re being killed for the wool beneath our stomachs.

Our fur is being used to make sweaters for people like you.

I wonder what is being done to help you.

She was being watched by an elephant.

So good things are being done here to save local wildlife.

被动语态

被动语态定义

语态是动词的一种形式，表示主语和谓语间的关系。英语动词有主动语态和被动语态两种语态。主动语态表示主语是动词的执行者，被动语态表示主语是动作的承受者。

结构

不同时态的被动语态在结构上有所不同，基本遵从be done 的规律

下面按照不同的时态分别讲解每一种时态的被动语态，英语中的时态是由四个时间和四个体组合而成，但是高中阶段我们最常使用的是下列表格中所列的是11个时态。下面就详细介绍一下这11种时态的被动语态

在there be…句型中，当动词不定式修饰名词作定语时，不定式用主动式作定语，重点在人，用被动形式作定语，重点在物。

　　例There is no time to lose（to be lost）．（用 to lose可看成for us to lose；用to be lost，谁 lost time不明确。）

在be to do结构中的一些不定式通常应用主动表主动, 被动表被动。然而,由于古英语的影响,下列动词rent, blame, let等仍用不定式的主动形式表示被动意义。
