Topics:

At the 1972 banquet, Premier Zhou noticed the dexterity(灵活性)with which President Nixon used chopsticks. The Nixon had been using chopsticks instead of knives and forks for their meals for half a year in the White House before their visit to China. After Nixon, visiting American presidents try to use the “small trick” to show off and win the host's pleasure. Yet restaurants in China now offer knives and forks to their western customers. Do you think foreigners in China should adapt to the Chinese dining habit or vice versa? Each student should argue for one of the two stances.

From my point of view, foreigners in China should adapt to the Chinese dining habit. Just as the old saying goes: do as the Romans do. Chinese speak English in foreign countries, and Chinese use knives and forks overseas. From the perspective of cultural equality, why not foreigners in China follow our dining habit? Although using chopsticks is difficult for foreigners, but it is an unique experience in China. Moreover, it’s an essential part of our culture. Not to mention that President Nixon had been using chopsticks for months in order to practice before visiting to China, as well as other American presidents. Therefore, each foreigner should at least give it a try on using chopsticks, which show their agreement and respect to Chinese culture better. Only after a few months practicing, foreigners could handle chopsticks, then they can be more fit in China.

Do you agree with the “family decline” theory? One student sees traditional marriage as ideal and argues that the diversification of family forms has resulted in “a decline of families”. The other student does not agree and believes that a variety of family practices better fit the post-industrial era.

I don’t agree with the “family decline” theory. With the society developing, families are just changing to adapt to the new environment. Maybe the importance of family is decreasing, but this is not a decline of families. Many people only see traditional marriage as ideal because they focus on the negative sides during families change. For example, fewer young people are getting married; marriages are becoming more fragile, and divorce rates are rising every year; also, as a social unit, the family is engaged in less collective activities. However, at the same time, people pay much more attention to love, they lead their life more intensive.

A variety of family practices better fit in the post-industrial era for the following reasons. To begin with, everyone could choose the family form they like, instead of following the traditional old ones. That shows people’s responsible and serious attitude towards family. What’s more, as far as I’m concerned, it’s helpful for individual development.Family change brings about the improvement of individual autonomy, the increase of individual self-realization opportunities, and more warmth between husband and wife and parents.

Of the following two life philosophies, which one do you agree with more, the one from Wright or the one from Tagore?

(1) Give me the luxuries of life and I will willingly do without the necessities (Frank Lloyd Wright);

(2) I slept and dreamed that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and

behold, service was joy (Rabindranath Tagore).

I agree with the one from Tagore more. Exactly, I find the first one really ridiculous. Wright seemed to be a supporter of capitalism and consumerism. About 1.4 billion smart phones are sold globally each year, but the outbreak of epidemic has found severe shortages in the supply of surgical masks, respirators and medical protective equipment. How could we only treasure the luxuries of life instead of the necessities, which is irresponsible and selfish.

The second life philosophy is more inspiring. It means that after we had known what was life, we were still willing to welcome it, we were still looking forward to the future even in the dreams. I particularly agree with this positive attitude of loving life. The word “service” is a little bit confusing, maybe it refers to the work, to the responsibility or what else?

Discuss the necessity and feasibility of adding Qixi (the Chinese Valentine’s day) as a public holiday. One student thinks it’s necessary and feasible, but the other student disagrees. Talk about the reasons.

Make up the "holiday gap" between The Dragon Boat Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival, so that the distribution of holidays throughout the year is more even.

As a traditional cultural festival, Qixi Festival has the same profound historical origin and memorial tradition as Qingming, Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival. The establishment of "Qixi Festival" as a statutory holiday like Qingming, Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival is conducive to the protection and inheritance of traditional culture.

Qixi Festival has now evolved into "Oriental Valentine's Day". In today's society, there are still many migrant workers who cannot get together with their families for a long time and live a modern version of the life of "Cowherd and Weaver girl". The Qixi Festival has been added as a statutory holiday, which also shows the humanistic care for families and couples.

Legislation should be passed to close the Qixi Festival and build a bridge for them to reunite with their families on that day.

Yeats once said “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” You and your partner will discuss the relationship between “filling of a pail” and “lighting of a fire” in terms of university education. One of you believes the former is the prerequisite of the latter; while the other thinks otherwise.

I don’t think that “filling a pail” is the prerequisite of “lighting of a fire”. To begin with, we are talking about the university education. During this period, we had accumulated a lot of basic knowledge, and we are pursuing for what we want to learn deeper. “Lighting of a fire” is to stimulate students' desire to learn, slowly cultivate students' ability to think independently, that’s more scientific. While, “filling of a pail” is to force students to learn a great amount of knowledge. That’s not suitable for the fast-changing development.

The most important in education is to motivate the student. When they have strong interest to figure it out, then education is the most successful.

One student acts as a young person who wants to quit her/his job because it takes long working hours and too many business trips, leaving no time for her/his life. But on the other hand, the pay is good and nowadays it’s not so easy to find jobs. The other student acts as a friend who’s trying to persuade her/his to stay on this job.

I’d like to stay on this job for the following reasons.

First of all, the job market is really co 内容过长,仅展示头部和尾部部分文字预览,全文请查看图片预览。 c benefits. That’s right! The places will change some traditional customs to cater for the tourist, but the tourist have no idea about that. For example, there is a famous village in Netherlands. Many people are attracted to go and live for a few days to experience their authentic local lifestyles which is like living in a fairy tales. Last year, I went there, only found thousands of tourists. The locals open shops and perform the show. I have to say there are so many examples like that.
