I Priming

1. Doing survey and interviewing about going out around the world in the classroom (p.68-69)

T introduces the topic by showing the slide of “Going Out”

T presents the survey questions (p.68) on the screen and elicits responses from the ss.

Put students into groups of five students. Ss work out a list of questionnaire questions regarding activities off campus.

Students rise and walk around the classroom, asking at least two students from other groups the questions they have prepared.

Students discuss their findings and prepare a group report to the class.

II Meaningful Input

Reading

T introduces the topic of the reading, “Going out at nights in different regions/countries in the world.”

Ss read and take note of how the situation is different from that in China. Encourage ss share in pairs what they have found interesting or surprising.

2. Listening to and reading tips for visitors to Thailand (p. 75).

Elicit from Ss what they already know about Thailand. Then, Ss watch a short video “Ten places you must see when you are in Thailand.” While watching, ss take notes of what they find most fascinating.

Ss read the extract of Ex. 4 and guess which choice is correct for each tip.

Pre-teach the following vocabulary before listening: social customs, address, formal situation, royal 内容过长，仅展示头部和尾部部分文字预览，全文请查看图片预览。 question. Ss attempt to respond to the requests. T encourages several alternatives and elicits reasons for the responses.

T plays the recording of complete conversations. Ss compare their responses with the recorded answers. Then, ss practice these conversations in pairs, paying attention to the intonation for making polite requests.

T and ss go through the language summary on p.145

Ss convert the impolite requests to polite dialogues (p.71). Then, practice again in pairs.

Speaking Making instant decisions and responses p.72

Go through the language summary on page 146.

Work out a situation in pairs. It must be either embarrassing, controversial, or difficult to handle. Then, teacher collects the situations and distribute among the students. Each pairs consider how to cope with the situation and act it out without announcing the situation. Afterward, the rest of the class try to figure out the situation. Finally, choose the best situation and actors/actress.

Making a social arrangement p.77

Ss read the conversation between Laurence and Roger on page 77 and try to complete the conversation before listening. Then, listen to check.

Listen again, paying attention to the language for making/accepting/refusing an invitation.

Read the emails on page 50 Workbook, match the invitation to the responses, paying attention to the language for making/accepting/refusing an invitation.

Write an email inviting someone in your class to a place or do something together. Respond in class to the student who invites you. The emails could be displayed on the smart screen for class checking and evaluation.
