To understand the truth (point/nature) of…, it is important (necessary/essential/crucial) to examine (analyze/see)…

To get a sense of (a better look at/ a better understanding of/ a full appreciation of) how (what)…, we must (have to) turn first to (have a bird’s eye view of/ make a close study of)…

Different people have different attitudes. Some are in favor of …, while others are against….

Personally, I side with the former (latter) opinion…
