Teaching Content:Reading — A Night The Earth Didn’t Sleep

Material Analysis:

The content focuses on the reading of Unit4, Module1. This unit is surrounded by earthquakes to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing. The passage tells Tangshan Earthquake happening in 1976. The passage shows us the most destructive natural disaster in the 20th century by describing the signs before the earthquake, the damages during the earthquake and the rescue work after the earthquake. We should form the ability to observe daily natural phenomenon. When the earthquake is coming, we should be calm and be face with it bravely. After we should learn to help each other and spend the difficulty.

Students’ Analysis:

1. The students have accumulated some knowledge about earthquake, so they are familiar with the topic. However, they need to acquire the detail information from the passage. Combining this, I can organize my teaching.

2. The students in Senior Grade 1 have accumulated some basic English vocabulary during Middle School. And they have mastered some learning strategies and skills. They have the basic abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing. However, the whole base of the students is not good, especially vocabulary lack.
