70700: EXTERNAL FIRE HYDRANT SYSTEM

1. General Requirement

The Contractor shall investigate, and construct a high-quality External Fire Hydrant System to meet the requirements of the Contract and to the approval of the Engineer. Approval by the Engineer shall not relieve the Contractor of any of his responsibilities under the Contract.

The Contractor shall himself make all necessary independent investigations and studies to ensure that the construction of the External Fire Hydrant System including all foundations, structures, and site development meets with the requirements of the Contract and is suitable and adequate for the purpose including the functionality of the transmission and distribution system.

The Contractor shall make all arrangements for the necessary External Fire Hydrant System pipes and to install all required new pipes with the Engineers approval

2. Safety Precautions

The Contractor shall ensure compliance with all safety precautions for the construction and operation of the External Fire Hydrant System including all applicable codes and regulations of the country. The provisions to be considered in execution of the work shall include the following items:

i) Establishment of a safe and well illuminated working environment ii) Measures to prevent health risks in handling harmful chemicals

iii) Provision of safety equipment, protective clothing and equipment iv) Provision of adequate caution signs

3. Scope of Work

a) The work under this Division to be carried out by the Contractor consists of the following items to meet the requirements designated in the Drawings, and as specified herein:

i) Excavating in trenches in asphalted roadways, concrete pathways and open ground and laying of STPG-VS (vinyl coating) pipes, installation of bends, tees, pipe couplings etc. and backfilling and consolidating the fills as specified and provision of concrete beds, anchor blocks, thrust blocks and protective concrete where appropriate and as indicated.

ii) Installation of fire hydrants, gate valves, air-valves, scour valves, pressure gauges, etc.

iii) Making good damages made to all asphalt paved areas, concrete walkways etc. in excavating and any other damages occurring because of the construction works

iv) Connecting the newly laid pipes to the new fire hydrants

v) Allowing provisions for connecting to proposed internal systems in buildings. vi) Cleaning, painting and labeling all equipment, pipe work and accessories.

vii) Provision of cathodic protection, external protective treatment to all pipes and specials, concrete surrounds, construction of markers, installing indication tape etc.

viii) Installation of cathodic protection for corrosion protection.

b) Prior to the commencement of the External Fire Hydrant System the Contractor shall obtain the approval of the Engineer on the materials to be used and the methods of execution. No plant shall be manufactured, or materials used or installed until the Contractor has been notified by the Engineer of his approval.

c) All pipes and other appurtenances laid/installed are to be tested and commissioned as specified.

4. Methodology & Execution

a) New pipes to serve the external fire hydrant system.

b) There also exists the possibility of clashes with the other construction works of the project.

The Contractor shall survey the area of the work in compliance. All information collected shall be referred to the Contractor’s construction drawings.

c) The Contractor should execute the works in such a manner to cause least interruption to the other ongoing construction works and the day to day functioning of the existing systems.

d) Where the work area is to be overlapped with the Apron and Drainage Works, the Contractor shall only commence the work after demonstrating to the Engineer and Employer coordination between all construction activities planned for all scheduled works.

5. Submittals

Shop Drawings

a) The Contractor shall supply shop drawings for all installations identified as deemed necessary by the Contractor to the Engineer, at times in accordance with standard practice before the planned date of installation and for the items that are to be imported.

b) In respect of materials to be imported, following a shop drawing review, but prior to release for ordering, the Contractor shall furnish a sample of all proposed types of piping, selected fittings including one fire hydrant without cabinet box, all as instructed by the Engineer. The Contractor shall place the order only after receipt of approval of the shop drawings and the approval of the samples after they have been inspected and tested by the Engineer.

c) In respect of surge vessels to be imported or fabricated, Contractor shall supply shop drawings including selection calculations, proposed type, selected fittings, for engineer’s approval prior to the ordering.

d) In the event of corrosion protection, Contractor shall prepare shop drawings for the installation of cathodic protection including calculations, as per BS 7361 or newer versions.

6. Equipment/Materials

a) All Plant, equipment and materials shall be in accordance with BS 5306-1, NFPA 24

Standards as specified.

STPG-VS( vinyl coated steel pipe) type pipe to be used for piping purpose.

b) All Plant, equipment and materials shall be compatible with all applicable Safety and

Protection Constraints listed by the Underwriters laboratory Inc:(UL), Factory Mutual(FM)

c) All Plant, equipment and materials shall be suitable for their intended purpose and environment, e.g. water tightness, ambient temperature and humidity, resistivity to corrosion, damage due to vandalism, etc.

d) The components shall be marked to ensure that they can be identified and used on the worksite with no possibility of confusion.

e) Pipes and Fittings

The provisions of DIVISION 50030 and DIVISION 70040 shall also apply. f) Valves

The provisions of DIVISION 50040 and DIVISION 70060 shall also apply.

7. Installation, Cleaning, Testing and Flushing

The provisions of DIVISION 70100 shall apply.

The entire pipe line to be tested hydrostatically for 2(Two) hours with pressure 15-17 bar or 1.5 times of working pressure.

8. Tools and Spare Parts

The Contractor shall provide tools and spare parts as required by the specified Section and

Division and as recommended by the manufactures.

9. Measurement and Payment

a) Earth Excavation:

This item of work shall be measured in cubic meter(cum) of earth in embankments and shall be paid for at the contract price per cubic meter(cum) of earth measured as provided above, which price shall constitute full compensation for furnishing ,transporting , placing all labor, equipment , and materials , including handling of excavated material , clearing the base of the jungles, shrubs etc, bailing out of water(if necessary), leveling ,dressing, cambering, compaction and disposing of surplus excavated materials and debris by hauling to any distance at approved location inside/outside of the site , as well as all incidental such as overhead ,profit, taxes, vat etc. Necessary to complete the work according to the applicable plans/design drawing.

b) Piping :

This item of work shall be measured in meter(m) of pipe installation and shall be paid for at the contract price per meter(m) of pipe measured as provided above, which price shall constitute

full compensation for furnishing ,transporting , placing all labour, equipment and materials , including handling of excavated material , clearing the base of the jungles, shrubs etc, bailing out of water(if necessary), leveling ,dressing, all necessary test including leakage & pressure test etc. compaction and disposing of surplus excavated materials and debris by hauling to any distance at approved location inside/outside of the site , as well as all incidental such as overhead ,pr 内容过长,仅展示头部和尾部部分文字预览,全文请查看图片预览。 re Pump & Jockey Pump:

Pump shall be measured for payment by completed and accepted in place.

This work measured as provided above will be paid for at the contact unit price or each particular item, such price and payment constituting full compensation for all materials, labour, tools, equipment and incidental needed to complete the work. The complete work includes work associated with structure and equipment as indicated in drawing, if not specially mention in item of Bill Of Quantities.
