Unit 3 Under the Sea

Reading Old Tom the Killer Whale

Analysis of the teaching material:

In this unit students learn about Killer whales and whaling in the early twentieth century. The reading text uses two anecdotes to ask students to think about contemporary issues such as whether whaling should be allowed and whether sharks should be protected.

二、Analysis of the students

The students of my class have got certain reading ability, but they still need well improving. In the meantime, their speaking ability is not as good as expected and they are of different levels so I should adapt the lessons to each of them and try to solve different kinds of problems which may appear in class.

三、Teaching aims,Important points&Difficult points

1. Teaching aims:

① Enable students know more about plants and animals under the sea.

② Train the students’ reading ability.

③ Let students understand and describe the relationship between animals and human beings.

④ Make students realize the importance of protecting sea life.

2.Important points:

① Reading comprehension to the text

② Understanding the relationship between the killers and the whalers.

③ Important words and expressions

The relationship between the killers and the whalers

In addition, the class should be more practical according to students’ ability.
